Welcome English students and parents from Charter Oak High School to ShockeyWorld— the distance learning Assistant/Doorway to helping you navigate this bizarre new online classroom in 2020.
As we proceed through the Google Classroom, Zooms, Google Meet and other technological wonderlands, it can get a little overwhelming. So, I hope this space will be a touchstone for you to just check what we are working on and offer you links to the important places.
You may have heard that my class is hard. If I’m 100% honest, then the rumors are correct. However I am not scary, and the material is accessible. IF you teach your brain to examine literary material critically, to ponder and reflect carefully, and give yourself time to finish your tasks, then the class will be rewarding and fun. You can come on this journey with me, don’t fear! And, although I do not require you to have an owl, a sword named Sting, or a shopping list for Diagon Alley, I will cross-train your brain and get you fit for college. Plus, there is no need to learn spells, avoid a stone giant, or travel to Narnia.
Being in my class is work, don’t get me wrong, and like all good journeys, the payoff when you get to the other side of May is enormous. You’ll be writing essays and discussing literary theories and ready to level-up, wizard! If you learn the right skills and perfect your thinking and writing techniques, you’ll find that the quest across the threshold to ShockeyWorld was easier than you thought. (And you didn’t have to answer a riddle from a troll under the bridge or survive Wizard Chess!)
As we head into the new school year, there are a lot of things to do. Therefore, this page is under construction. So have a little patience while I get the house elves to do my bidding and build my site. (See you in Middle Earth, Hogwarts, the interwebs, whichever comes first!)
